Vitae MICHAEL GOLDMAN Michael Goldman specializes in matters relating to insolvency, valuation, and forensic accounting. He has had numerous engagements representing creditors, debtors, and equity and he uses his experience with each of those perspectives to optimize the results in his cases. He has been qualified in both state and federal court as an expert witness, and has served as a consulting expert numerous times in cases related to insolvency, allegations of fraud, fairness, commercial damages, valuation issues, professional malpractice, and bankruptcy issues. His fifteen years of consulting experience and fourteen years of in-company experience as senior manager give him a unique perspective in his client assignments. Mr. Goldman’s industry experience includes a number of executive positions: Chief Financial Officer for a $100 million retail company, Controller for a $550 million retail company, V. P. of Finance and Controller for a $550 million retail company, and Controller for a $50 million wholesale distributor. This in-company experience developed his expertise in productivity enhancement, systems improvement, expense control and reduction, cash management, and crisis management. He has extensive experience in modeling operational changes, developing accurate forecasts and budgets, and improving both the timing and accuracy of internal reporting. A sampling of Mr. Goldman’s consulting engagements include: · Appointed as Examiner by U.S. Department of Justice to value the debtor’s assets and liabilities, investigate allegations of fraud, and determine other financial information in the bankruptcy of a $27 million franchiser. · Uncovered and documented bankruptcy fraud in numerous cases for trustees or secured creditors, leading to large recoveries for the bankruptcy estates · Served as Chief Restructuring Officer of a $35 million technology company, negotiated all claims and successfully prepared company for sale. · Served as debtor-in-possession and successfully liquidated a $100 million retail bankruptcy case, assisted the debtor-in-possession of a $550 million company undergoing liquidation, assisted the debtor-in-possession of a $32 million manufacturer in case administration and sale of the company, and served as D.I.P. of a $180 million construction company. · Retained by numerous Debtors and Creditor Committees to negotiate unsecured claims and prosecute preference claims, avoidance actions, and fraudulent conveyance actions. · Retained to trace cash, determine ownership of collateral, and resolve sales tax disputes in $220 million and $80 million Assignments for the Benefit of Creditors. · Administered the assignment for the benefit of creditors of a national specialty retail chain. · Retained by secured creditor to safeguard collateral in after fraud was discovered at a $150 million leasing company. · Assisted secured creditor in negotiating with equity in the workout of a $150 million construction company Mr. Goldman is a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Fraud Examiner, a Certified Valuation Analyst, and is Certified in Financial Forensics. He is an adjunct professor at the Lake Forest Graduate School of Management teaching a course on Entrepreneurship. His academic degrees include a Master of Management in Finance and Accounting from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Managerial Studies from Rice University in Houston, Texas. |
