Our recent experience in the bankruptcy and litigation area is more fully detailed in the bankruptcy engagements section of this web site.  Where we truly add value to the process is in our experience and in our fees.

With over fourteen years of in-company experience managing debtor companies, and over three years consulting to both debtors and creditors,  Michael Goldman & Associates can bring a perspective to the table that is not available to the typical CPA or consultant that has only worked on "hit and run" projects.  When you need someone to negotiate payments, terminate employees, pull meaningful information out of an accounting nightmare, manage a liquidation, or testify as to common practices in real live businesses, don't you want someone who's been there and lived through it on a constant, day-to-day basis?

With respect to our fees, we have a modest office in downtown Highland Park and experienced consultants who only get paid what they earn.  If you are dealing with a bankruptcy or litigation situation, you or your client has already lost money.  You do not need to aggravate the situation by paying for beautiful atriums, training programs for staff that constantly turns over, international television advertising campaigns, and other overhead that is not contributing to resolving your issues.  Thanks to the way the competition does business, we are able to make a very nice living and still charge significantly less than they do.

Services that we can provide include:

  • Assessing the company's long-term viability
  • Designing or challenging a business rehabilitation plan to maximize profitability
  • Assessing the adequacy of the company's financial reporting systems
  • Preparing an analysis of the impact of a bankruptcy on the debtor's operations and on the potential recoveries to the creditors
  • Debt/equity restructurings
  • Pre-bankruptcy planning
  • Monitoring the company's business operations and/or compliance with the restructuring plan
  • Deciding whether and when to file for bankruptcy
  • Preparation and/or review of schedules of assets and liabilities and statements of affairs (required bankruptcy schedules)
